What the chooser is for
The chooser answers the long-label ranking before a canvas exists. It tells you to prefer the lollipop chart once you pass 9, and it names the pie chart as the form to avoid when the count gets large.
Use the lollipop chart once a long-label ranking passes 9, because the eye can compare lengths faster than angles. The pie chart still works for a handful of shares of one total. The chooser states that limit before you draw, and the compare page puts the two forms side by side so the switch is visible.
Pick the lollipop chart when the long-label ranking has more than 9 parts or when people must rank them. Keep the pie chart only for a single total cut into a few shares. Open the chooser to see the avoid note, then the compare page if you still want both drawings.
Check each criteria to confirm findings against the atlas verdict.

Compare shows the lollipop chart and the pie chart as a pair, with the same long-label ranking in mind. Use it when a colleague still wants the familiar pie chart after the chooser already said 9 is too many.
If the sentence is “who is larger,” the lollipop chart wins even below 9. If the sentence is “how the whole splits,” a pie chart can stay, but only while the parts stay few and labeled.
A 3D edge or a legend with 9 colors will not rescue a pie chart that already failed the count. Change the form to the lollipop chart first, then open the studio.
This page chooses a lollipop chart or a pie chart for a long-label ranking around 9. It does not draw the chart and it does not change how the studio sanitizes a shape.
