A British WWII cargo ship bombed in 1941 at Sha'ab Ali, rediscovered for the public by Cousteau-era film, now a mass recreational wreck. Holds are overhead. See wreck-diving.
Is Dahab's Blue Hole a beginner site?
The shallow rim can be snorkelled. The arch and deep hole are an advanced, lethal-if-casual scuba problem. Freedivers use it with a plan or not at all. See freedive-safety.
Jackson Reef?
A Tiran Strait reef, often dived as a drift with a wrecked freighter on the reef in the lore. Current and park rules apply.
Elphinstone and the Brothers?
Offshore marine-park walls, typically liveaboard, with a pelagic reputation. Not a first Sharm house reef.
Abu Dabbab?
A Marsa Alam area known for seagrass and, at times, dugongs, plus a few wreck and reef names. Distance and park manners apply.
The method is a checkout at a jetty or house reef (Dahab, Hurghada), then Ras Mohammed or Tiran when current and cards match. The Thistlegorm is a planned wreck day. The Blue Hole arch is not a graduation requirement.
A first week belongs on a Sinai jetty or a Hurghada garden, not in a hold.
Steps
- Checkout in easy Red Sea water
Jetty or garden. Buoyancy in a 22 C+ sea is still a skill.
Salt and sun dehydrate before the wreck does.
- Ras Mohammed as a briefed drift
Shark and Yolanda are park water. Current is the point.
Stay with the group; the pickup is in blue.
- Tiran only with a current plan
Jackson and the strait are not a pool.
Wind cancels more Tiran days than a missing logo.
- Thistlegorm as an exterior first
Holds are overhead. See wreck-diving.
A souvenir from a war wreck is illegal and indecent.
- Blue Hole: rim or trained plan
The arch is how reports get written.
Snorkel the rim; do not invent a deep air dare.
