Major honours
A gym run in Mexico City by Ignacio 'Nacho' Beristain that represents the technical lineage of Mexican boxing. Beristain's method combined the pressure and body work typical of the Mexican style with precise countering and defense, and more than 20 world champions have emerged under his instruction. Ricardo Lopez, who retired at minimumweight with a record of 51-0-1, super-bantamweight's Daniel Zaragoza, light-flyweight's Humberto 'Chiquita' Gonzalez, and the brothers Juan Manuel and Rafael Marquez carried the gym's name around the world. Juan Manuel Marquez in particular, across four fights against Manny Pacquiao from 2004 to 2012, followed Beristain's corner instructions to read an opponent's rhythm and delivered a textbook case of counterpunching.

Rivalry
Romanza's counterpart was Pacquiao and Freddie Roach's Wild Card. The eight-year Marquez-Pacquiao four-fight series was a clash of two gyms' philosophies, and a single sixth-round right-hand counter in 2012 settled the argument.
