Major honours
A modest second-floor space above a Hollywood strip mall became the most important gym in the world during the 2000s. Former fighter Freddie Roach opened it in 1995, and when Manny Pacquiao walked in in 2001, the two began a partnership that would run twenty years. Roach added a right hand, angles and footwork to Pacquiao's left-hand-only attack, remaking a super-bantamweight into a welterweight champion, and along the way Pacquiao became the only fighter to win world titles in eight weight divisions. Beyond Pacquiao, Wild Card took in Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan and a late-career Oscar De La Hoya, and Mike Tyson's final camp was also built there. Roach himself, still holding the mitts despite a Parkinson's diagnosis, has become the gym's symbol and has been named the Boxing Writers Association of America's Trainer of the Year multiple times.

Rivalry
Wild Card's opponent was always the Mayweather camp. Roach's sparring with Floyd Mayweather Sr. ran throughout the 2010s, and in the 2015 Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, which took five years of negotiation to make, Roach's game plan never found an answer.
