Major honours
Founded in Rio de Janeiro in 2000 by Murilo Bustamante, Mario Sperry and Ricardo Liborio, all of whom broke away from Carlson Gracie's academy, Brazilian Top Team was the first large-scale Brazilian camp to build a genuine wrestling and striking program on top of a jiu-jitsu foundation. Just two years after its founding, Bustamante won the UFC middleweight title in 2002, and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, as PRIDE heavyweight champion, fought virtually every top heavyweight of the era, including three bouts with Fedor Emelianenko, and captured an interim UFC heavyweight title in 2008. Ricardo Arona reigned as PRIDE's premier light heavyweight grappler, and Paulo Filho brought home the WEC middleweight title. As founding members scattered, Liborio moved to Florida to build American Top Team, and that split alone reshaped the MMA landscape of the 2000s.

Rivalry
The feud with Chute Boxe was the most intense gym war in the sport. Arona and Wanderlei Silva clashed in the PRIDE ring, and Brazilian domestic events saw both camps' fighters brawl in the stands.
